IWMI and Lao Department of Irrigation Sign MoU to Advance Climate-Resilient and Efficient Irrigation Management

On December 19, 2025, the Integrated Watershed Management Institute (IWMI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Irrigation (DOI), Ministry of Agriculture and Environment of Lao PDR, at the DOI office in Lao PDR.

The MoU aims to establish a cooperative framework for developing and implementing climate-resilient and efficient agricultural and irrigation management systems in Lao PDR.

In particular, IWMI and DOI will work together to identify and expand projects and initiatives that contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in areas closely aligned with DOI’s core responsibilities, including water resources management, smart agriculture, and efficient irrigation development.

Both institutions will designate focal persons to coordinate cooperation activities, hold regular meetings to review progress, and continue discussing new areas of collaboration. Through this partnership, IWMI and DOI aim to generate practical outcomes that improve water-use efficiency and strengthen climate resilience in the agricultural sector.
